Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has issued a stern warning to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are aligning themselves with rival political coalitions, describing the trend as a dangerous form of political indiscipline that threatens the unity and integrity of the opposition party.

Speaking at the PDP Stakeholders Conference held on Wednesday in Abuja, the Governor—who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum—reiterated that the party will no longer tolerate members who attempt to operate within the PDP while simultaneously lending support to the newly formed opposition coalition, which has reportedly adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official platform.
In a firm and unambiguous tone, Governor Mohammed emphasized the need for party loyalty and internal discipline, stating that members must decide where their political allegiance lies.
“We cannot take indiscipline to a level where it becomes contagious,” he declared. “If you are in PDP, you are in PDP. You cannot be in the PDP and be in the coalition or another party.”
Describing the formation of such coalitions as an “aberration,” he cautioned that political duplicity would no longer be condoned.

“You cannot belong to two places. You cannot be a hermaphrodite—you cannot be a man and a woman at the same time,” he said, using a controversial analogy to stress his point.
The Governor’s remarks come amid growing tensions within the PDP, following reports that some prominent members have been participating in meetings and negotiations with leaders of the new coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Observers view Mohammed’s comments as part of a broader effort to consolidate the party’s base and assert firm control ahead of critical pre-election alignments. The PDP has been grappling with internal divisions since the 2023 elections, and the emergence of an alternative opposition bloc poses a fresh challenge to its relevance as the country’s primary opposition force.

Party insiders say disciplinary measures may soon be announced for members found to be engaging with rival platforms.
The Stakeholders Conference continues this week, with further discussions expected on strategy, unity, and party discipline in the run-up to the 2027 polls.
