Homosexuality: Man Arrested While Partner Escaped; Angry Mob Attacked Office of the Former Youth Leader in Mokola, Ibadan North Local Government
Following the purported discovery of a man named Oyewole Taofeek indulging in homosexual activity, tensions have risen in Mokola, Ibadan North Local Government, causing a tense response from locals.
Residents of the neighborhood—a densely populated area of Ibadan and one of its historic towns—reportedly became agitated and protested after the incident, which occurred on the evening of Friday, October 3rd, 2024.
According to information obtained, the disturbance started when a neighbor discovered Oyewole Taofeek having sex at his private home with his bisexual partner, Kunle Aina, who is currently at large.
At Mokola Police Station, our correspondent learned that Taofeek mentioned other men as his sexual partners, including Akinkunmi Sakeeb Moradeyo, a former youth leader in the area. The police are reportedly searching for Moradeyo and the others mentioned.
It was gathered that Mr. Moradeyo survived an assassination attempt in 2023, which is still under investigation. An anonymous older resident described him as a gentleman and excellent community youth leader. The resident speculated that the police focus on arresting Moradeyo is politically motivated due to his opposition to the ruling party.
On the morning of October 6th, CM received reports of an uproar around Mokola Hill. At 46, Adelaja Street, Festac Road, Mokola Hill, a mob gathered in front of Mr. Moradeyo’s office. Some demanded his death for being bisexual, while others defended him, claiming the attack was politically motivated.
Hamsat Yunus, Mr. Moradeyo’s assistant, said the police had just left and worsened the situation by announcing to the neighborhood that Moradeyo was a wanted criminal for bisexuality. The office was vandalized shortly after.
Mr. Moradeyo could not be reached, but his wife Atinuke Moradeyo stated via phone that her husband has been traumatized and is still in hiding due to the earlier assassination attempt and current persecution. She claimed the authorities were determined to eliminate him.
