Men are not always fools~ By Ademola H Adigun

Iya Itumo perched on her balcony wall. It was her favourite place. It was like a space observatory for her. She could monitor all that happened in the community. She had a dossier that the CIA would be envious of, on everyone in the community.

Just last week she had cause to mediate in a paternity conflict. Alfa Nurudeen was in dispute with Brother Teju over a child with Sister Bola. She told them who the father was without a DNA test. A lab would later confirm her verdict.

Her focus at the moment was Dorcas. Dorcas was a young fair complexioned lady with bosoms that seemed to be trying to escape the earth. She walked in a very seductive manner that caused mini palpitations for those that stared long enough. Brother Samson had become ensnared. He was spending a large part of his meager income on Dorcas.

He bought her creams. Bought her cosmetic jewelry. Gave her pocket money. Iya Itumo was very concerned. She had called Dorcas asking her if she were serious with Samson. Dorcas had giggled and subtly told Iya Itumo to mind her business. Iya Itumo had smiled wickedly. She recalled how Abe Idris had shunned her when he was flirting with Afikupanu’s daughter.

Bro Samson was physically challenged. He had some noticeable deficiencies. He also stuttered when speaking. Girls laughed at him when he approached them.

It was with shock and consternation that the community learnt that Dorcas was pregnant and Bro Samson was the father. How? When? What? They asked. Iya Itumo knew the answer. What did she not know?

Someone had assisted Samson with small magic. When Samson had shared his feelings for Dorcas and how she had been collecting his gifts and making demands on him financially. That someone had given him small stuff. All Samson had to do was get Dorcas into his house. And the rest would be history.

Atenuje had worked against Dorcas. Pregnant for a man she only wanted to use. Brother Ochuko was there. More accomplished. Brother Henry the Tiger was there. More appealing. She had landed on the wrong bed.

Iya Itumo cackled with laughter when the baby was being named. She wanted to send a name “Ojukokoro” but she resisted the urge.

Don’t sniff what you do not intend to eat. Men are not fools!
