PDP Loses Ibadan North Stalwart as Olalekan Atilola (OLACASH) Dumps Party over Internal Crises

A prominent figure in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Olalekan Atilola, popularly known as Olacash, has officially announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), bringing to an end his long-standing association with the party.

Atilola is widely regarded as a stalwart of the PDP and was until his resignation an aspirant for the Oyo State House of Assembly, seeking to represent Ibadan North State Constituency II. With a strong political base in Ward 7 of Ibadan North Local Government Area, he has built a reputation over the years as a committed grassroots politician with deep connections across the federal constituency.

In his resignation letter submitted to the leadership of the party, Atilola cited several fundamental concerns that informed his decision to part ways with the PDP. These include what he described as a lack of inclusiveness in party affairs, a poor reward system for loyal and hardworking members, and the lingering internal crisis at the national level of the party, which he noted has continued to stifle unity, progress, and political growth.

According to him, the decision to exit the PDP was neither sudden nor taken lightly. He emphasized that he devoted a significant part of his political life to the party, contributing to its growth and stability, particularly at the grassroots level. His involvement, he stated, was driven by a sincere commitment to democratic values, party loyalty, and community development.

Beyond his personal decision, political watchers believe Atilola’s exit may signal a broader movement within the party. It is believed that a significant number of PDP members have quietly withdrawn from active participation in recent times, while several others remain undecided about their political future due to the ongoing crisis rocking the party. Sources close to the development indicate that Atilola will be moving with some of his political allies and party members who had earlier left the PDP discreetly, with plans for them to officially identify with him in the coming days.

Known as a strong grassroots mobilizer from Ward 7, Atilola commands considerable influence across Ibadan North Federal Constituency, particularly among youths, community leaders, and local political structures. His ability to mobilize support at the ward and constituency levels has long been considered one of his strongest political assets.

While Atilola did not officially disclose his next political destination in his resignation letter, strong indications within political circles suggest that he may be aligning with the Accord Party, a platform believed to be gaining momentum as the political home of the growing “Oyo n pe o” movement.

Atilola expressed appreciation to party members, supporters, and associates who stood by him throughout his journey within the PDP. He urged them to remain focused and committed to the collective struggle for good governance and development, regardless of political platforms.

As political realignments continue to reshape Oyo State’s political terrain, Atilola’s next move is expected to attract significant attention and may further redefine the balance of power in Ibadan North and beyond.
